Suriya is one of the very few Tamil heroes, second popular after Rajinikanth, to have a good market in Telugu. Although his last couple of films have bombed, they have opened to decent numbers. But, the star hero has received a massive shock concerning his latest release, "Gang".
According to reliable trade reports, 'Gang' collected a meager distributor share of less than Rs 90 lakhs in the two Telugu states. This is the weakest opening for a Suriya starrer in the last few years. Even Trade analysts are shocked at the poor opening. Clash with Balayya's "Jai Simha" and relatively smaller release are being termed as the major reasons for the low opening.
On the bright side, Gang has received better talk than both Jai Simha and Agnyaathavaasi, and so is expected to pick up over the holiday season. It is heard that significant number of screens are being added for the Suriya starrer from tomorrow. Most importantly, Suriya will be visiting theatres from tomorrow and promote the movie in the Telugu states in his bid to reap maximum benefit out of the decent talk.
