WHO Corona Warning: Not 1 or 2 yrs But For 10 Years

At a time when people across the world are eagerly waiting for a vaccine to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued an alert that Coronavirus is here to stay for not one or two years, but for a decade.

An announcement to this effect was made by WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom while addressing the Emergency Team which met at Geneva to review the situation of the pandemic as six months had passed since the outbreak of the pandemic. They discussed the existing conditions across the world and the necessary precautions to be observed to check the spread of the virus.

Over 30 people of the team, including 18 members and 12 advisors, met for the fourth time since the outbreak of the pandemic. The committee held deliberations on wearing mask, observing physical distance, closing down public places where there was a possibility of people gathering in large numbers and made some suggestions to the organisation regarding the steps to be taken in the future.

The committee told WHO that they had found solutions to several issues regarding the virus but that solutions to many more are yet to be discovered. The team said that many more people across the world were at the risk to be infected by the virus. The members alerted WHO that places where the pandemic was waning can also witness another phase of intensified spread of the virus.

Coronavirus which appeared in Wuhan, China, in last December spread to the entire world within a matter of months and more than 200 countries were forced to go under lockdown for nearly six weeks. Now, many countries have resumed businesses but with caution and restraint.

As many as 1.77 crore people across the world were infected by the virus while 6.83 lakh succumbed to the infection.

In America, 47 lakh people were infected and 1.56 lakh died of it. More than 150 pharma companies across the world are on the job of finding a vaccine to the virus.
