Summons to Hero Nitin!
It's turn of actor Nitin. Central Excise and Customs department on Tuesday served summons to Tollywood star Nitin Reddy for alleged evasion of service tax. Going by media reports, Nitin hasn't registered himself for payment of service tax on his film deals for the past two years.
According to recent amendment brought in by the Union Government, every individual or entity which is part of a production or a film project is liable to pay 12.36% tax to the government. Contrary to this, Nitin even didn't register in service tax records.
Official sources say Nitin has been issued summons, but he is yet to react to the notices.
Meanwhile, officials add that there are several young and budding actors and reality show anchors who are yet to come under service tax. As per the norms, TV anchors, actors are bound to pay tax if their event/deal exceeds Rs 10 Lakh. Tax officials are likely to crack its whip on the tax evaders in film industry very soon.
