Indian Govt Serves Notice To Amazon & Flipkart!

In the midst of Amazon Great Indian Sale and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days, the central government of India has shocked both the e-commerce companies. The centre on Friday served notices to Amazon India and Flipkart for non-declaration of some mandatory information including ‘nation of origin’ of some specific items.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which examined their advertisements, has found that some mandatory declarations were missing as per norms under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodity) Rules. Seeking an explanation within 15 days from both the leading e-commerce firms, the ministry served notices and made it clear an action will be initiated if they fail to respond.

Amazon and Flipkart are aggressively campaigning the sale through TV & social media ads. While the Amazon sale has kicked off on 17 October, Flipkart started a day before i.e from 16-21 October.
