Delhi needed a good start from its batsmen to chase this total. However, Mumbai bowlers finished the game in the first two overs by getting Dhawan, Rahane and Shaw out for a duck. Delhi lost four wickets inside the powerplay. They were 41/5 inside 10 overs. When things went out of hand, Marcus Stoinis (65) and Axar Patel (42) played well and avoided an embarrassing loss for Delhi Capitals. In the end, Delhi was only able to make 143/8 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (4/14) and Trent Boult (2/9) broke the batting order of Delhi.
