TDP Leader And Former Minister Kala Venkat Rao Arrested

Andhra Pradesh Telugu Desam Party former president and minister Kala Venkat Rao was arrested by the police in connection with the attack on YCP MP V. Vijayasai Reddy convoy when he went to Ramatheertham to take stock of decapitation of Lord Rama’s idol.

He was taken into custody following allegations that Venkat Rao’s supporters hurled footwear at Vijayasai Reddy’s convoy during his Ramatheertam tour. He was arrested at his camp office at Rajam in Srikakulam district.

Later, he was shifted to Nellimerla police station. Leaders of all the political parties visited Ramatheertham at the same time following desecration of the Lord Rama’s idol.

Ruling YCP leader and MP V. Vijayasai Reddy and Opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the temple on the same day which led to tension.

The TDP leaders alleged that Vijayasai Reddy finalised his tour to Ramatheertham in the last minute after knowing that Chandrababu Naidu was visiting the shrine. At this time, Reddy’s vehicle was attacked.

After the YCP MP came down the hill, his vehicle was attacked even before he stepped into it. This led to jostling which soon spiralled into a clash between the YCP and TDP cadre. At this time, footwear and stones were hurled at Vijayasai Reddy’s vehicle and it is being alleged that Venkat Rao’s supporters were involved in the attack.
