3 is the Tamil movie that has created sensation all over the world with chartbusting Kolaveri song. This film is directed by Ranjinikanth's elder daughter and Dhanush's wife Aishwarya. The film has made enough buzz to start off with 100% attendance. Question is can it sustain the momentum in the coming days to stay afloat at the box office? Let's discuss the positives and negatives of 3 Movie...

What is it about?

Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruti) fall in love in teenage and after years of love they get married and when everything is going fine, a sudden jolt comes in the form of Ram's psychological disorder. Everything turns upside down from that point and Dhanush takes a decision that changes their lives forever.

Performances:

Dhanush carries this film on his shoulders with a spectacular performance. His character is very complex and needs to show different shades of life. He did an absolute flawless job in portraying Ram's role. He is a treat to watch in those teenage love scenes and while he was suffering from a psychological disorder.

Shruti Haasan surprises with a good performance. Her character needs to cry loud and loud and that is not as easy as it appears. Watch out for her transformation from a teenage girl into matured youth. Rest of the star cast didn't have much to do in this film.

On the Technical Front:

Anirudh's music is top notch. Apart from his soothing melodious compositions, his background score stands out. Much hyped Kolaveri picturization is not effective. Cinematography is splendid. Vel Raj's camera infused life into the setup and characters. Editing is neat.

Director Aishwarya impresses with her directorial skills. Her framing and shot division is good and on par with established directors. She also has enough in her to extract the best from her cast and crew. Aishwarya dealt with the young age love story with supreme command, but failed to hold the grip in the latter scenes. She is a talent to watch out for.

Analysis:

This movie's first half is in complete contrast to second half. First half is light and breezy with tender love feelings. Second half is heavy with high tones of a psychological thriller. Director failed to get the transformation right as there are no proper scenes conceived to make this sudden change look convincing enough.

Screenplay is flawed and the narration is snail paced. The first half is extremely entertaining with good romantic episodes with realistic approach. Second half is not bad either if you are okay with the sudden genre shift. However, second half appeals to only a section of audience that can excuse the blunders done at the start of this hour.

3 may not appeal to Telugu audience, who generally look for entertainment and bright colors in a cinema. Expecting a dark film to win Telugu hearts is bit too much. That doesn't mean 3 is inferior or a film to be completely written off. Audience who love to see different genre movies will like this film and they will surely have more than 3 reasons for liking it.

Verdict:  3 appeals to limited audience.
