Shailaja Reddy Alludu directed by Maruthi promised to be a good mass entertainer. But Maruthi couldn't make this click because of half baked script and failed humor.

What is it about?

Chaitanya (Chaitanya) falls in love with an egoistic Anu (Anu Emmanuel) and tries his best to win her. Anu falls for him but he comes to know that she is the daughter of Shailaja Reddy (Ramya Krishna), an egoistic woman. Chaitanya has to win Shailaja Reddy's approval to marry Anu.

Performances:

Naga Chaitanya is at his handsomest best in the film. His performance is also good, but he didn't get an opportunity to shine in an underwritten character. Anu Emanuel is alright as egoistic girl. Ramya Krishna's screen presence is an asset. However, Shailaja Reddy character didn't live up to the expectations. Vennela Kishore's comedy is okay in parts. Prudhvi's comedy failed to get desired results. Murali Sharma is good as egoistic father of the hero.

Technicalities:

Maruthi who usually comes up with hilarious scenes couldn't get it right this time. The script is half baked and the scenes have terribly misfired leaving the movie in a mess. Maruthi has to blame himself for such a shoddy work as writer and director. A couple of songs are catchy and background score is okay. Cinematography is good. The film needs a lot of trimming. Production values are impressive.

Analysis:

Shailaja Reddy Alludu is a commercial film that takes the formulaic route. Films like these usually don't have engaging story but works with the masses because of masala elements and well thought out formula. Unfortunately, Maruthi couldn't get the formula right and Shailaja Reddy Alludu struggled to move forward right from the first scene. Maurthi expected the egoistic characters to work magic and take the story forward. But none of the scenes are either impactful or entertaining.

There is a lot of time spent on the romantic track between Chaitanya and Anu. This part failed miserably because of bad writing and poor comedy. Almost entire first half is totally dedicated for this poorly written romance track. Intermission episode seems interesting with the entry of Shailaja Reddy character. However, Maruthi once again fails as a writer and couldn't make use of the much hyped Shailaja Reddy character. Instead of focusing on the ego of Shailaja Reddy to generate fun, he makes it a melodramatic affair where the protagonist has to try to clear the differences between mother and daughter.

Shailaja Reddy Alludu like its title feels dated in every scene. Maruthi tried to make it entertaining by giving importance to comedy, but it only worked here and there. There is nothing exciting about the film to make the viewers sit until the end. Predictable narration with bizarrely written scenes makes it unbearable after a point. Even music is not up to the mark and action scenes are just there for the sake of it. Shailaja Reddy Alludu is like watching an eighties film with fresh star cast. It lacks elements that please the masses too. It is a total dud from Maruthi that will heavily rely upon first weekend collections to be a safe venture.

Verdict: Outdated Alludu!
