Fading stardom of Senior Stars
Gone are the days when a Balakrishna or a Nagarjuna movie pulls good number of audiences to the theaters. The fifty plus superstars are not hot anymore. This year has given clear indication that audiences are looking for freshness and are supporting young heroes than the age old top heroes. None of the yesteryears superstars made a mark at box office this year.
Balakrishna had three releases in this year and all of them were duds. Adhinayakudu sank without a trace and Uu Kodatara Ulikkipadatara left huge hole in the pockets of whoever invested in it. Srimannarayana was a below average fare, which is not even a trace of Balakrishna's actual capabilities. Venkatesh's Bodyguard couldn't withstand the whirlwind openings of Businessman. It ended up as an average film.
Nagarjuna had two releases this year and both of them were just average (cost failures in other words). Shirdi Sai and Dhamarukam didn't live up to expectations. On the other hand Mahesh, Pawan Kalyan, Charan and others are booming high. This shows that senior stars are being overlooked by our cine goers. Time has come for retrospection and it seems like Balakrishna and Venkatesh have realized the necessity of teaming up with youngsters to add value to their films.
