In Talk: IPL Bookies Rs 5,000 crore loss
The revelation of spot-fixing scandal in IPL have been incurring hefty losses to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore for the bookies as the people who had placed bets have been refusing to pay their dues on the grounds that the matches were fixed. Interestingly, this applies for all the matches and not just the matches participated by the three tainted cricketers of Rajasthan Royals.
As per the sources, not men alone but women in large sections has taken part in the betting of IPL matches this year.
A noted Bollywood hero's mother has lost Rs 7 crore for placing bets during the recent IPL season and she is yet to clear the dues.
A prominent yesteryear actress too has invested crores on betting and she is now refusing to clear the dues by showing the spot-fixing scandal.
In an another instance, when a bookie tried to threaten a woman to get the due amount of Rs 17 lakhs which she lost on bets, she retaliated by threatening to lodge a rape case against him. The bookie has no other option but to leave the place.
Bookies have gone into underground ever since the spot-fixing scam broke out. However, they have been still in touch with the betters through phone to recover their money. In fact, Most of bookies have borrowed money on interest to place the bets. They will be in huge financial crisis if the punters refuse to pay the due amount.
