Communal clashes claims 31 lives
The toll in the violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas has climbed to 31 as PM called up CM Akhilesh Yadav and extended Centre's support in tackling the situation.
"The death toll in the violence in Muzaffarnagar and other areas has climbed to 31,"Principal Secretary Home R.M. Srivastava told PTI. District Magistrate Kashal Raj Sharma said one person was stabbed to death by some miscreants in Meerapur town of Muzaffarnagar district on Monday.
Prime Minister condemned the violence in Muzaffarnagar and assured Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of all required help from the Centre in dealing with the situation.
The Prime Minister spoke to the Chief Minister about the steps being taken to restore peace in the areas which have witnessed violence, a PMO statement said. "The Prime Minister condemned the violence and expressed grief and shock over the loss of innocent lives," it said.
Singh assured Yadav that the Centre will extend all required assistance to the state government in tackling the situation, the statement said.
