Supporting T-bill will be suicidal for BJP?
This is the doubt that cropping in everybody's mind of late. The statements of Narendra Modi about Congress motives and lack of administrative panache as to the T-state issue are certainly raising the eyebrows about the party readiness to support the Congress-sponsored T-bill.
Modi questioned the way the new state is declared and alleged that Congress had taken the decision to ensure its victory in 2014. Advani also seem to be uncomfortable with the fact that region with Capital city wants to separate from the state.
Though BJP has been supporting the T-state demand for quite long, it is the open secret that the party does so to improve its poll fortunes in this region. The party has virtually abandoned Seemandhra region and supported T-demand for pure electoral reasons. Telangana has been a stronghold for BJP and little sway in favour of the party will fetch some seats in the lower house.
Now with the Congress party is taking full advantage of state division, BJP is losing on all fronts. It cannot get a single MP seat in entire AP. More to that, the Congress party will get a minimum of 15 MP seats in 2014 elections if the T-bill is passed in next session of the House.
BJP is as opportunistic as Congress when it comes to political calculations. Gifting these many seats to Congress by supporting a bill introduced by Congress would be difficult choice for the party. So, the party is not really happy about the ongoing situation and not showing its previous vigour to T-bill.
BJP is putting serious efforts to checkmate Congress in next elections. If the party can find a "right reason", it will definitely foil the Congress efforts to pocket Telangana seats. This situation will be definite test of tactical shrewdness of BJP; it may not act too altruistic when it comes to power tactics.
