Hyderabad Student raped for 17 Months
A 20-year-old student of a polytechnic institute in Hyderabad has been abducted and raped for 17 months by the owner of the college canteen. At last, the girl managed to escape and reached home, bringing the sexual harassment into light.
The victim, a native of Riyasatnagar in Old City, was a student of a polytechnic institute. On April 3, 2012, She was given fruit juice laced with sedatives in the canteen and before kidnapping her. The canteen owner Satya Prakash Singh (33) raped her repeatedly ever since then and shifted her from one house to the other to avoid getting caught. She escaped from the captivity on September 4th (2013) when the accused was asleep and reached her home. Soon, Girl's family has approached the police and the very next day Singh was taken into custody. Cases have been booked against the accused under sections including kidnapping, sexual assault and criminal intimidation.
The report of rape spread like wild fire and people launched a massive online campaign. Several protesters including the students of polytechnic institute marched to Santosh Nagar police state demanding speedy trail and severe punishment to the accused. AP Human Rights Commission has asked DGP Dinesh Reddy to conduct an inquiry and submit a report by October 7th.
