Giving Up The Glam: Stunning Heroines In Bland Looks

The performance and glamourous look are not mutually exclusive, but some of our filmmakers believe that looking odd or non-stylish means performance. That’s a discussion for another day and let us see how many of our usually glamorous actresses did great in their non-glam looks too. It is more like a wave when many actresses go de-glam for non-traditional roles in the same season. It looks like that season has come and here are some stunning beauties shedding the makeup as ‘demanded’ by the roles.

Keerthy Suresh made a great impression among film circles with her Mahanati performance, but she is slowly losing the following due to the bad choice of the films and look transformations. While her Penguin and Miss India disappointed huge, her rugged and junky look for Saani Kayidham is impressive. Let us see if her effort towards transformation is at best use for Saani Kaatidham. For Rang De and Sarkaaru Vaari Paata, she is obviously back to looking beautiful.

Payal Rajput turned all the eyes with her bold yet grey role in RX100, but her films after that could not keep that sensation up. It looks like she picked up a role with substance this time and has gone for a de-glam look in Anaganaga O Athidhi. Payal Rajput appears to have done well as a village belle in a crime drama with greed, lust, and desire laced in. Payal plays Mallika and we have to see how well her character was written and how she does it!

Rakul Preet has done quite a good number of roles in contrast with the usual. We know her usual lover girl roles, but she turned a nerd for Spyder, political analyst for NGK, and this time, it is a village belle for Krish – Vaishnav Tej movie. Rakul has done something similar in Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam, but let us see if this is much different from it.

Raashi Khanna calls it a reinvention and she loved every bit of it. Raashi Khanna has never gone de-glam or for a village belle look, but she has done it for a photoshoot. Raashi Khanna looked all the same elegant but different, while she says she is walking out of her comfort zone. True to that, we wish to see a full-length role in this look with a half-saree, minimum makeup, flowers tucked in her hair.

Samantha Akkineni is known to excel in any role she takes up. There were inhibitions among the audience on how she does it when Ram Charan is not himself anymore and all we could see was Chittibabu. But Samantha was equally laureled for her performance and above that for her perfect village belle looks and mannerisms. It is heard that Samantha plays a de-glam role yet again for The Family Man season 2.

Taapsee had been choosing performance-based roles and for one of them, she’s got a huge makeover for Saand Ki Aankh. Taapsee played Prakashi Tomar for this biographical movie, where she had to look like the 60 yeard old. She has gone a complete non-glam look and her prosthetic make-up took 3 hours. That is one of those rare roles and we have to see if Taapsee is willing to do something like it again.

Hebah Patel has become a sensation with her bold role in Kumari 21F and many movies thereafter. Not many know that she played an innocent village belle in her debut movie Ala Ela. Hebah seems to be doing it again for her Odela Railway Station movie and she got herself in a simple saree serious look. Oozing hotness in her glam doll roles is what Hebah did many a time, but the new natural look seems to be backed by a great performance.

Aishwarya Rajesh is a Telugu girl shot to fame with Tamil films. Aishwarya has often gone for performance-based roles and in many of them, she had to look natural and de-glam. The actress did not hesitate to get introduced in Telugu with an unfashionable role in Kousalya Krishnamurthy. Later she caught the eyes of the Telugu audience with her innocent housewife look, again an unstylish one, in World Famous Lover.

Multitalented and beautiful Andrea Jeremiah mesmerized us all with her stunning bold performance in Taramani and after that, Andrea slipped into a simple girl-next-door look for gangster trilogy Vada Chennai. Though she plays a cop in her next movie Maaligai, a wildlife photographer in a thriller movie Kaa, she will always be ready for a natural look for a well-written character.

Sanjjanna Galrani shocked all with her erratic appearance and the gruesome murderer role in the recent two parts of the Dandupalyam franchise. Sanjjanna’s Dandupalyam performance impressed so many filmmakers that she was offered more non-sophisticated roles later.
