Covid-19: India Suspends Flights To UK

The United Kingdom is probably hit by the third wave of Covid-19. In the last few days, the new positive cases have piled up and medical experts found out a new strain of the virus which is more impactful. Countries such as France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland and Bulgaria have imposed restrictions on travellers to the UK.

Joining them is India which has temporarily suspended flights from December 22nd mid-night to December 31st. The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has confirmed the suspension of flights with a couple tweets. “Considering the prevailing situation in UK. Govt. of India has decided that all flights originating from UK to India to be suspended till 31st December 2020 (23.59 hours). This suspension to start w.e.f. 23.59 hours, 22nd December 2020. Consequently flights from India to UK shall stand temporarily suspended during above said period,” tweeted the ministry.

The ministry has decided to conduct tests for all travellers arriving in the next few hours and if possible, they may quarantine depending upon the situation.

Meanwhile Union health minister Harsha Vardhan has called for an emergency meeting this morning and after the meeting he commented that there is no need to panic. Overall the Centre has acted swiftly in this emergency case and announced suspension of flights on time.
