Netflix Cracking Down on Shared Passwords

In a bad news for Netflix users, it is doing tweaks to its password feature that might probably asks viewers to verify they share a household with the account holder. This means Netflix will prevent unauthorised sharing of passwords but it will eventually force the users to open a new account to continue streaming.

In India, Netflix has the highest subscription plan i.e, Rs 800 per month and to avoid this, people especially friends share passwords among themselves. A few years back, Netflix introduced mobile edition and it’s plan is fixed at Rs 200 per month. Even this model did not receive a good feedback and so people are continuing their phenomenon of sharing passwords.

Regarding the new password tweak, Netflix adds that this feature is being designed so that customer’s account for the streaming service may not be shared with individuals beyond your household. But this feature is still in the testing stages and will appear to limited users. In case, if the message pops up, users can skip the question but once it is rolled out, you need to provide accurate information.

Well, this could hurt Netflix business more in India considering the severe competition among OTT platforms these days.
