It's Official: Pranab - India's 13th President
Veteran politician and former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee (76) was elected as the 13th President of India on Sunday. Rajya Sabha Secretary General V K Agnihotri, who is also the Returning Officer for the poll, have declared the results Today evening.
UPA candidate Pranab got 5,64,469 vote value, which is much higher than the 50% mark (5,25,140) required to become the President out of over 10.6 lake vote value. On the other hand, BJP's nominee PA Sangma managed to get only 2,57,466 vote value despite the backing of opposition patties like AIADMK, BJD, etc., Out of the total 748 MPs, Pranab bagged the support of 527 votes with a value of 3,73.116 and Sangma secured 206 votes with a value 1,45,848.
After the declaration of results, Sangma accepted his defeat and congratulated Pranab apart from wishing him success. Pranab Mukherjee is expected to become one of the greatest President's India has ever seen, given his vast experience (four decades). Let's hope for the best from Pranab!
