'It Is Bad Luck That Ghantasala Is Telugu Guy'
Legendary director K Vishwanath has made sensational comments against another legendary music director and singer, late Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, or simply Ghantasala. One will get shocked after listening to these comments, but will realise that it is true.
'It is quite bad luck that Ghantasala is a Telugu guy. Had he born in any other place in India he would have got a Bharata Ratna award by now', stressed Vishwanath. He adds that Ghantasala is the only music legend in India who reached to heights with distinct qualities. After inaugurating the statue of this legendary singer in Kakinada the other day, he made those comments. However, the singer was already honoured by the Government of India with a 'Padmasri' and a postage stamp was also released in memory of him.
Many a times, Bharat Ratna is conferred to musicians and singers who are more popular through their public concerts but not cinemas. MS Subba Lakshmi, Ravishanker, Lata Mangeshkar, Bismillah Khan and Bhimsen Joshi are examples. Maybe that is the reason why Ghantasala is not given the highest civilian award.
