The Story Behind Dubbing For Uppena Villain

Vijay Setupathi is one of the very few versatile actors in the country right now. Having made his base in Kollywood, the actor is slowly venturing into other film industries. This year, Vijay will mark his debut in Bollywood and will also meet the Telugu audiences in a full-length role in Uppena. Ever since Uppena’s trailer came out, the audiences and the actor’s fans started expressing their disappointment over the actor’s voice. Since Vijay Setupathi can’t speak Telugu, the film unit picked a professional dubbing artist to give a voice to his role. However, there’s a story behind it, which director Buchi Babu Sana revealed in a recent interview.

While accepting to do the film, Vijay Setupathi has told the filmmaker that his voice will not suit the character in the film. The film unit tested a lot of voices including character artist Ajay. After not getting satisfied with the trails, the film unit then approached the award-winning dubbing artist Ravi Shankar.

Ravi Shankar is Sai Kumar’s brother and needs no introduction to Telugu audiences. Ravi Shankar usually takes a single day to complete the dubbing for any character but after watching the character on screen, he decided that one day is not sufficient to finish the dubbing.

“Ravi Shankar garu came to dub with an intention to finish it and fly back to Bangalore. He did not get any clothes with him. After deciding that one day is not enough, he went to Sai Kumar garu’s house and got clothes. He stayed three days, and completed the dubbing.” revealed the director.

Buchi Babu added, “The character that Vijay sir played in the film is violent and very intense. A strong base voice would go well with the character and so we got Ravi Shankar sir on board,”

Uppena featuring Panja Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty will hit the screens on 12th February.
