Some of the runaway hits like Vicky Donor and Delhi Belly have turned to be damp squibs in Telugu despite the fact that they have out of the box content. And that brings us to the doubt, will negative climaxes and out of the box stories really work with Telugu audiences.
Of late, Tollywood is talking about the remake of recent Tamil release "96" where the mature love story of Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha became topic of the town. Generally, lovers meeting after the breakup and finally breaking up again years later is a negative climax which Telugu audiences don't embrace much. That's the reason Trisha's Ye Maya Chesave got a positive ending in Telugu while it has a negative ending in Tamil.
Also for a slow paced movie like 96, actually the presence of a star hero is a must to get immense attention. And now, which hero of Vijay Sethupathi's stature in Tolywood is ready to accept the role? Already producer Dil Raju ruled out that Samantha and Nani are playing the lead roles in the film.
Owing to all these factors, hope that 96 will not become another damp remake of a hit movie.
