Survey: Rs 16,800 Cr Spent On Mobile Ads

Smartphones have become part and parcel of one’s life. In day-to-day activities, everyone needs a phone and that too with internet connection. Along with the smartphones, thousands of apps are getting made and these are catering many needs of a mobile user.

In order to attract consumers, app creators are marketing their product on a large scale and for this, they are shelling a bomb of money. According to app analytics firm App Annie, Rs 16,800 crore ($240 billion) was spent on mobile ads for the year 2019 (since 2020 data is not available).

And in an interesting stat, the average time spent by users worldwide on smartphones was 4.2 hours a day in the first three months of 2021. This is up by 30 percent when compared with 2019. In App Annie’s survey, India has recorded the biggest surge as consumers spent 80 percent more time in smartphone apps in the March-ended quarter compared with 2019.

However, the global advertising market shrank 4.2 percent in 2020 mainly due to the pandemic that hit every industry. Yet the digital advertising grew by 8 percent for the same year. With people sticking to homes, the demand for data and internet grew marginally.

App Annie estimates that mobile advertisers are expected to shell out more money this year which could be around $290 billions.
