As India is witnessing the highest spike in coronavirus cases in the ongoing second wave, billionaire Mukesh Ambani took a step forward and is diverting oxygen produced at his refineries to help the nation in the crisis. In other words, Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd, which operates the world’s biggest refining complex in Maharashtra, has now commenced supplying oxygen from Jamnagar in Gujarat to Maharashtra at zero price.
Maharastra will get 100 tons of the gas from Reliance and the news has been confirmed by Eknath Shinde, urban development minister, on his Twitter handle. India is facing an unprecedented number of cases that have caught the centre and state governments unprepared.
We also have the death of hospital beds and a shortage of oxygen. And hospital staff vividly stated that they would admit patients only when the oxygen supply is increased. Which is the reason why Ambani took a stride and diverted oxygen streams meant for its petroleum coke gasification units. Parallel to this, Bharat Petroleum Corp has built up a stockpile of 20 tons of oxygen at its Kochi refinery in Kerala for medical use.
