Amid devasting scenes of virus surge in India, a picture is going viral on the internet where a vast line of ambulances are waiting in line, exclusively reserved for the cremation of Covid-19 patients. The picture depicts how worse and harrowing the situation is in India. Ambulances queued up outside the crematorium is truly heart-wrenching and such excruciating pictures are the least we want to witness in this grave situation.
Also, a few heartbreaking images have emerged on social media where relatives and family members were seen weeping uncountably outside hospitals. The pictures were taken outside the Kengeri crematorium in Bengaluru city and some families even waited for two to three hours to get their slot. A man who lost his mother due to Covid-19 said “My mother passed away and we have been waiting for two hours to cremate her. They said it takes an hour to cremate one person and there are families of four more deceased people in the queue”.
The staff at the crematorium said they received 23 bodies of COVID-19 victims on the previous day as well and that ambulances had queued up outside the facility. A similar situation can be seen in the Sumanahalli crematorium as well where they cremated a total of 22 bodies in 24 hours. The staff personnel said that they are working beyond their working hours to accommodate the surge.
As per the data, the bodies are being queued up ever since April 10 and there is no break when it comes to cremations. Initially, four crematoriums at Medi Agrahara, Kudlu, Panathur and Kengeri were reserved for the bodies of COVID-19 victims. But on Thursday, the BBMP released an order which reserved three more crematoriums at Summanahalli, Peenya and Banashankari.
