Delhi Extends Lockdown Till May 3rd

After imposing a complete lockdown for six days from April 20th to April 26th, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal today announced that the lockdown in Delhi is extended further for another six days He said the lockdown will remain till next Monday i.e 3rd May.

While making the announcement, Arvind Kejriwal said that the novel “Coronavirus still continues to wreak havoc in Delhi”.”Public opinion is that lockdown should increase. So the lockdown is being extended for one week,” he added. CM Kejriwal said that the positivity rate is around 36 to 37 percent which was not there earlier. The national capital is struggling to provide beds, oxygen and medicines to Covid-19 patients.

“While we have failed to deliver oxygen at some places, in other places we have succeeded… the situation should be under control in the coming few days,” Kejriwal said. He said, “The requirement is 700 metric tons and what’s reaching us is 330 to 335 metric tonnes only.” The Centre has increased Delhi’s oxygen quota again from 480 to 490 metric tons.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal had appealed to the Chief Ministers of other states to help Delhi by providing oxygen if they have spare. He wrote, “I am writing to all CMs requesting them to provide oxygen to Delhi, if they have spare. Though Central govt. is also helping us, the severity of corona is such that all available resources are proving inadequate.”

The Delhi government has started a portal for oxygen management. This will record the status of supplies from the manufacturers to the hospitals every two hours, said Kejriwal. The Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab are increasing rapidly. In South, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala have imposed lockdown-like restrictions whereas Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have night curfews in place.
