Serum’s Philanthropic Gesture! Vaccine Price Reduced

In minor good news, the Serum Institute of India (SII) has reduced the Covid-19 vaccine i.e, Covishield price to the states. Initially when the SII announced the vaccine prices, it was different for the Centre and states. For Centre it would cost Rs 150 per dose while for the states, it was fixed at Rs 400.

Many state governments have expressed their serious displeasure in the price partiality and blamed the Centre for this. The other day, Centre has asked the SII to rethink on the prices to the states and accordingly SII CEO Adar Poonawalla has announced the reduction.

“As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of @SerumInstIndia, I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs.400 to Rs.300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives,” tweeted Adar.

This is a minor relief to all the states who are planning to administer vaccines at free of cost to the people. A reduction of Rs 100 per dose, could have a lot for money for the state’s treasury.
