Sudheer Babu and Indraganti Mohan Krishna impressed us all with their Sammohanam. The duo made an action film V after that but it failed miserably. Indraganti and Sudheer teamed up yet again for Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali. The trailer hints at a concept of movie-making interlaced with the love story of the lead pair. The latest sensation Krithi Shetty is the female lead. The movie was released in theaters today. Here is the review.

What Is It About?

A double-hattrick blockbuster director Naveen (Sudheer Babu) plans for a story that revolves around a beautiful girl as his next. Incidentally, he bumps into a film reel can and his curiosity to find what it is leads him to an eye doctor Alekhya (Krithi Shetty), who is always moody. He decides to make her the lead in his movie. Will he be able to convince Alekhya of his movie? What is her story and what are the hurdles he had to face to convince her and get the movie done? The answers to these questions are all about Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali.

Performances

Sudheer Babu did fine as a film director. He had to look like a young director with some passion and a little attitude. Krithi Shetty is given a more mature role this time. She did decent on her part. The thin plot and slow-paced narration do not give much scope for the lead duo to perform better. Vennela Kishore brings a few laughs but more entertainment from his could have made the first half better. Rahul Ramakrishna, Sreekant, and Avasarala Srinivas did their respective roles fine. Avasarala Srinivas did a sacrificing role once again.

Technicalities

The plot of Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali is not new. A filmmaking concept within the movie and the subplots revolving around is something we have seen earlier. Indraganti Mohan Krishna added a twist and an emotional ending but the plain narrative does not let the graph go high at any point. The movie looks colorful. The cinematography is good. The screenplay could have been better. The background music is good and the songs could be better. A few dialogues are good.

Analysis

From Puri’s Neninthe to the recent Sammohanam, there are many movies that had movie-making as the main concept. The director picked a similar concept, but a weaker one instead. A passionate director’s conviction to make a film with one particular girl and his struggle to convince her from her aversion to films is all about Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali.

The first half of Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali takes a long time to establish the actual plot. The lack of highlights or entertaining scenes in the first half is a big drawback. The story does not just move forward due to some slow-paced drama between the characters. The scenes where the girl gets a good impression of the hero appear artificial.

The pre-interval twist is good. But it appears like the story is being dragged until the twist is revealed. Vennela Kishore’s dirty-minded one-liners work in parts, but more fun from him would have left the first half passable.

The second half is heavier but better than the first. Although it runs at a good pace, most of it is predictable and bland. Though there is much more to it. The protagonist revealing his side of the story appears more like a ploy to convince the heroine of what he wanted, than like his real-life events. There are too many coincidences that give a hard time getting connected. Although the flow is good in the second half, most of the scenes are predictable.

The climax has got a few minutes of emotional ride that is very touching.

Overall, the only highlights the in the movie are the interval twist and the climax emotional drama. But with a weak plot and dim narration, Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali ends up as an ordinary movie. It has to be seen how the movie fares with no big films until the other weekend.

Bottomline: Barely Passable

Rating: 2.5/5
