Puri Jagannadh who made most of his films with big stars opted to direct a female centric film Jyothi Lakshmi right after bagging a hit with Temper. Charmi plays the role of a prostitute in this film.

What is it about?

Software Engineer Satya (Satya) is in search of a call girl who he fell in love on first sight. After searching for few days he finally succeeds in meeting her. She is Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmi) who is a prostitute that enjoys her profession. Satya convinces her to elope with him and they get married. Jyothi Lakshmi's past keeps on haunting her and she decided to put an end to it.

Charmi who has won few awards in her career so far has done well in getting into the skin of the character. Her body language and expressions are right on the money. She is equally impressive after she turns rebellion against the system. Satya is alright as the male lead. Most of the actors other than Brahmanandam are not so familiar faces. They did alright. Brahmi is fine as a sex addict. Sampoornesh, Krishnudu and few other actors did a cameo scene during the climax.

Puri Jagannadh is not in full command of this movie at any instance. His usual spark is completely missing in this film which seemed pointless after a point. He tried to make it up during the final scenes, but the build up is too weak for any pay off to pay off! This will go down as one of the weakest films of Puri Jagannadh.

Songs are pretty bad. Sunil Kashyap failed to make use of a decent opportunity. Cinematography and Editing bears Puri's stamp. Production values are alright.

Thumbs Up:

Thumbs Down:

Surprisingly there is so much casualness in this film that deals with serious issues. That maybe intentional from Puri to make it a commercially appealing film. However lack of soul and emotional depth don't help Jyothi Lakshmi to impress the audience. Barring Temper most of Puri's recent movies were very shallow in terms of script and Jyothi Lakshmi is no exception to it.

A common guy falling for a prostitute and eloping with her should be emotional as well as exciting. Unfortunately this film is neither emotional nor exciting due to the poor writing. Few minutes into the film one would wonder why Puri opt to do this film at all. The intentions of the male lead are told only during the second half. Until then this movie appears to be farcical and completely senseless.

Puri Jagannadh tried to make up for the flaws by highlighting the women during the climax sequence. Despite some good lines even the climax fails to appeal due to poorly conceived scenes. Apart from Charmi's performance Jyothi Lakshmi has nothing to rave about. Coming from the ace director Puri Jagannadh this will disappoint the film buffs a lot due to the bad script. In spite of giving a strong message to the media as well as the people who look down on females this film appears to be purposeless thus highlighting the failure of the director.

Verdict: Poorly made Puri Film.
