US Visa Applicants, Submit Your Social Media Details

The entire world is fuming over the rampant breach of private data on social media. On the other hand, the Trump administration wants all the US non-immigrant visa applicants to submit their phone numbers used in the last 5 years, multiple email addresses and social media histories. The latest move is part of the US government's "vetting" practice and to prevent entry of people who might "pose a threat' to the country.

The new law, which was released through a Federal Register yesterday, will reflect in the new visa forms. The State Department estimates that the new law would affect 710,000 immigrant and 14 million non-immigrant visa applicants.

Apart from the above mentioned details, applicants will also be asked about their previous international travel details to determine whether the applicant has been deported or removed from any country and whether any of their family members have been involved in terrorist activities.

The new law will be officially published today and the public would have 60 days to comment on the proposed new visa form.
