Over the last few days, there have been IT raids on Telugu Desam Party Ministers, MLAs and now, MPs. With former Union MoS Sujana Chowdary and CM Ramesh joining this list, the raids seem to have taken a political hue.
What is interesting is while no political party leaders, except the ruling TDP, have commented on the raids, BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao held a press conference in Delhi today to criticise the TDP Government in Andhra Pradesh. "Corruption is rampant under the TDP government. The party is protecting financial fraudsters and those who have amassed wealth illegally. But, TDP is portraying the IT raids as if BJP is neglecting the state of AP and provoking people," he added.
IT raids by the investigating officials is a regular affair which is handled by the department. So, why is the BJP reacting immediately to the raids while it has remained mum all through? This reflects a desperate attempt by the BJP in trying to distance itself from the IT raids while actually admitting to it.
The TDP leaders have been lashing out at the BJP, terming it political witch-hunt from the last few days. But, BJP's immediate reaction clearly raises doubts. Even, targeting former TDP leader in Telangana A. Revanth Reddy also looks like a plan hatched by the BJP, to counter TDP in both the states.
Earlier today, CM Ramesh said that the Centre has targeted him because he had issued notices to the Income Tax Department to furnish details about recent IT raids in AP.
