Jagan Infuses Fresh Blood Into Politics

The mayors and chairmen of various corporations and municipalities, who took oath and occupied their seats a day ago, have a common factor that would strike anybody in the political circles.

Of the 11 corporations for which elections were held, 10 had new faces as mayors. By making ordinary people, with non-political background, as Mayors, it is being said that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had set a new trend. People are hailing him for bringing fresh blood and new vigour into politics.

A majority of those occupying mayor positions are commoners. It would be surprising to know by giving the coveted posts to ordinary people, Jagan Mohan Reddy unveiled a completely different type of political manoeuvre.

Take the case of Wasim, elected as the mayor of Anantapur. He has no political background except that his father is the classmate of local YCP MLA Ananta Venkatarami Reddy. However, lack of political background had not been a hurdle for him to get elevated as a Mayor. Encouraged by the MLA, Wasim contested as a corporator and became the Mayor.

Chittoor Mayor Amuda is also a commoner who lives alone and She earns a livelihood by taking tuitions at her home.

Tirupati Mayor Sirisha is also a new face in politics. Her husband has a private hospital in the temple town. Sirisha entered the fray following the encouragement of the local MLA and became the first citizen of the city.

Vizianagaram Mayor Vijayalakshmi also leads an ordinary life. Her husband is an employee in the local MLA’s company. She got catapulted as the Mayor due to local political and social equations. By elevating common people as prominent persons in politics, Jagan made his mark as a revolutionary politician.
