Telugu Desam Party's politburo member until a week ago and as a person known to be in the party Chief's inner circle, Nama Nageswara Rao's entry into the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has raised many eyebrows. Nama, who is also the chairman of Madhucon, an infrastructure company, has been a hardcore TDP member and leader. His sudden decision of joining the TRS still points to some murky deal which compelled him to defect to the pink party.
If one goes by caste equations, Nama Nageswara Rao has been chosen as TRS' MP candidate for Khammam. Given that the district is dominate by Kammas and Nama represents the community, it makes sense. However, what has surprised many Khammam district TRS bigwigs is how Nama secured the seat for himself immediately after joining the party. If the TRS had to choose someone from the Kamma community, it could have chosen Tummala Nageswara Rao or any other leader from the community in TRS.
A newspaper report in one of the media houses run by the TRS stated that he received CBI notices on March 14th where his company Madhucon has taken up the contract to construct a bridge. In this case, Jharkhand High Court has directed the CBI to look into the irregularities. However, this case is an old one dating back to 2013-end when Madhucon had allegedly diverted funds in that state. Interestingly, the case was never taken up in the last four years but has come up now.
So, the questions surrounding Nama joining the TRS and he receiving CBI notices pertaining to a case in 2013-end points to how it could have been a reason why he was forced to join TRS. Well, does this establish the doubts cast upon how TRS has been "blackmailing TDP leaders about their businesses if they don't join the pink party" using the BJP's support or is it plain coincidence?
