With Andhra Pradesh witnessing a high-decibel election battle, politicians are in a cool-off period where they are waiting eagerly for election results that will be out on May 23rd. However, Election Commission doesn’t seem to believe that the state needs to cool off. Apparently, it is working towards holding the local body election in the state before May 23rd.
According to the government, the State Election Commission may hold Panchayat elections either by the end of May or in the beginning of June. Once the list is finalized by the EC and verified on field, a notification will be released, following which the local body elections will be held.
However, it is believed that the EC wants to hold the elections before May 23rd, the results day for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Even if the EC holds them before May 23rd, the results will have to be declared later. However, political observers are questioning the timing of the EC in holding local body polls before the verdict.
The real question is: With assembly elections witnessing unrest and clashes, will Panchayat polls bring more headache to political parties? Will this be another strategy by the EC to manipulate the election colluding with the Centre? What more is in store for Andhra Pradesh before the results are out, remains to be seen.
