Chandrababu's 'Polavaram Gate' Removed

After YS Jagan taking over as AP CM, the construction works of Polavaram dam have stopped due to unknown reasons. Partial works related to spillway and cofferdam are the only works that going-on now. Due to rain surrounding the Polavaram dam for the past three days, the officials have halted the works for time being.

Last year under ex-CM Chandrababu Naidu's supervision, a gate was fixed to the spillway. There will be a total of 48 such gates in the spillway and a private company has finished the works of manufacturing 48 gates. Once the pillars are ready, these gates can be fixed. But the gate that was glued has been removed. The officials say because of the rain, they are planning to let the flood water through the spillway and so they have detached the gate.

There are also rumors that the YSRCP government is planning to terminate the current contractors and call for new tenders with a reverse-tendering method. The experts committee has also advised the same and contractors who got to know about this are in thoughts of walking out of the project.

Meanwhile, the protective measure of the cofferdam is almost done. The irrigation officials are estimating that about 6 to 8 Lakh cusecs of floodwater and if it meets the estimations, there would be no trouble for cofferdam. The officials are planning to divert the water to the spillway if there is an inflow of over five lakh cusecs.
