Second Wave: India Becomes Covid-19 Hotspot!

The second wave of Covid-19 is rocking the country as it witnessed a new record 1.45 lakh single day infections. In a span of 24 hours, the country recorded 1,45,384 new Covid-19 cases and 794 new Covid-related deaths. Thus, the coronavirus cases surpassed the 1 lakh-mark for the fourth consecutive day. The death toll in the country has reached 1,68,436.

The active Covid-19 cases as on today stood at 10,46,631 which is a startling figure.

As per the Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR), 11,73,219 samples were tested for Covid-19 infection on Friday and 1,45,384 have been tested positive. So far, 25,52,14,803 samples have been tested in the country.

Veering towards Covid vaccine, 9,80,75,160 people have received vaccination since Jan 16th. The surge in Covid-19 cases combined with the vaccine shortage is causing a great worry to the state governments. Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi are witnessing a rapid spike in the Covid-19 cases.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has been tested Covid positive on Friday. He had already taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. CPI leader D Raja was also tested Covid-19 positive.

On the whole, with over 1.45 lakh single day infections, India becomes a new Covid-19 hotspot due to the second wave.
