All Liquor Shops in AP into Jagan's Hands

AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to take over all the liquor shops in AP into his hands. The state government on Saturday announced that it will take all liquor shops into its control from coming October 1st. With this, about 3500 liquor shops from October 1st will be under the control of Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL), owned by state government. Excise Minister and state's Deputy CM Naryanaswamy corroborated the same.

Earlier on September 1st, the state government had taken over 475 liquor shops and with the latest move, it is going to take over all the liquor shops. It can be noted that AP state government had announced that it will reduce the total number of liquor shops from existing 4380 to 3500 and eventually be phased out.

The liquor shops operated by APSBCL will be open from 10 AM to 9 PM from Oct 1st. Due to short-staff, about 3500 supervisors and 8033 salesmen are recruited to run the liquor shops. Meanwhile, the government is planning to recruit 678 police constables in excise department. In addition to the planned phase out of liquor consumption in the state, AP state government has started de-addiction centres in all government hospitals to treat those addicted to liquor.
