Centre Extends 'Local Status' In AP

Post the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, then union government has set three years time for people who want to shift from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh and attain 'Local Status.' Later on the previous AP government's request, the centre extended the time for another two years.

This term concluded on June 1st this year and once again the centre eased the 'Local Status' time by two more years.

In his last meeting with PM Narendra Modi, AP CM YS Jagan has requested the union government to extend this 'Local Status' by two years and after consulting the officials, the government has given a green signal.

A gazette notification was also released regarding the same on Friday and as per it, people who are still looking to migrate from Telangana to AP, can do it and attain local status by June 1st, 2021. For this the centre has made amendments in Clause 1 and 2 of Article 371 (D) with President of India's consent.

This enables students and job seekers to get reservations in the educational institutions and job notifications in AP.
