Attempts made to paint me 'Saffron': Raijinikanth

Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth claimed that Modi-led BJP has not directly invited him to join the party, but have been making constant efforts to paint him with "saffron" colour, the ideological colour of the BJP. Earlier, speculations were rife that Rajinikanth will join BJP in the opportune time. But he has finally opened up on the ongoing buzz about the rumours.

He also stated that attempts were being made to paint both himself and Thiruvalluvar with saffron, the famous Tamil poet and philosopher. Rajini was asked about veteran BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan's recent meeting with him and the rumour of former asking him to join the party, Rajini replied, "No offer has been made from BJP to join the party..definitely not".

"Attempts are being made to paint me with the BJP's colour..trying to paint me with saffron like Thiruvalluvar was done with. Neither Thiruvalluvar nor I will get trapped," he said with a big laugh. Rajini also mentioned Thiruvalluvar' name because, on November 1, the BJP's Tamil Nadu module tweeted a couplet from Thiruvalluvar's classic Tamil book Thirukkural, questioning the use of education if God was not worshipped.

The BJP also focused on the Dravidar Kazhagam, DMK and the Left parties for allegedly ridiculing God and for leaving believers offensive. They questioned: "what is the use of their education." The party also had posted a picture of Thiruvalluvar in saffron robes with sacred ash on his forehead.

Rajinikanth added that it is a dispensable controversy to politicise Thiruvalluvar as he is a saint and cannot be confined to any particular caste or religion. "The BJP shared a picture of Thiruvalluvar in saffron robes. They didn't insist on everyone else do so. Trying to create a controversy over the issue is not right."

Rajinikanth making it clear that he has nothing to do with the BJP has somewhat ended the rumours. Clarifying his shocking stand, his fans have been trusting him that the chances of the actor joining the party are very slim. With the new controversial statement, Rajini definitely gave a big relief to those who believed that joining BJP will only cause self-damage to him.
