With Majority in Council, TDP Invokes Rule 71

In what can be a shock to CM Jagan-led AP state government, Opposition TDP has invoked Rule No 71 in AP Legislative Council opposing AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020.

According to Rule No 71, the Opposition reserves right to have a debate on a bill or topic. TDP has invoked this Rule No. 71 in Council which is first of its kind in the history. The Rule No. 71 has been invoked before Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath table the bill in the Council. As TDP has majority (34 MLCs) out of 58 members in the council, BJP has 2 MLCs, the Opposition parties have majority in the council.

After counting the majority of Opposition as per Rule No. 71, Council Chairman has admitted the Opposition's demand. The debate on AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 has began in the house. With this temporarily, brakes have been applied to the AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 in the Legislative Council.
