US: Hyd girl raped and murdered in Chicago

A 19-year-old Hyderabad-based student, Ruth George, in Chicago, was sexually assaulted and later strangulated to death by an accused named Donald Thurman. The cops confirm the news on this horrific and brutal murder, which left the community in extreme shock.

Ruth George was a Hyderabad girl who went to the US for higher studies. She was a second-year honours student at the University of Illinois. In a horrific incident on Saturday, the girl was found dead lying in the back seat of a vehicle (family-owned) in a campus garage.

The 26-year-old Donald Thurman was arrested from a Chicago metro station. It is surprising to know that Thurman was not associated with the university. The cops have charged him with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual assault for killing George. The medical reports confirm that George's death is due to murder by strangulation.

On the other hand, the university also said in a statement that the girl's family reported to the University on Saturday that she is not in touch with them since Friday evening. After a forensic examination of the vehicle, the cops also retrieved video footage from the university where George was seen walking, followed by Thurman. Thurman has a criminal history and now, after taking into custody, he confessed to this horrific crime.

"All of us are devastated by the loss of Ruth George, a member of our Honours College and a talented kinesiology student with dreams and aspirations to become a health professional and help others. Our thoughts, our hearts and our condolences are with her family and friends during this trying period," University Chancellor Michael D Amiridis said in a statement.

Also, yellow ribbons are hung around campus in memory of George as yellow is her favourite colour. Her friends and professors in the university released a condolence statement saying that they will miss George's sweet and brightest smile dearly.
