US: Indian Family Of 5 Doctors Lost Father & Daughter With COVID-19

In a sad and unfortunate incident in New Jersey, an Indian-American father and daughter, who were both doctors, have died due to the COVID-19. Governor Phil Murphy described their demise as “particularly tough” and praised them with gratitude for dedicating their lives to others. The father Satyender Dev Khanna (78) and daughter, Priya Khanna (43), were a surgeon and nephrologist respectively.

Satyender served as the head of the surgical departments for several hospitals in New Jersey for many decades. And, his daughter, Priya was a double board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. Priya was also the Chief of Residents at Union Hospital and at the time of her death, was a part of RMJ Barnabas Health.

With this tragic new, NJ Governor Murphy tweeted “The father and daughter have dedicated their lives in helping others. This is a family dedicated to health and medicine. Our words can not amply express our condolences”. In a press conference, Murphy confirmed that the duo has died due to COVID19.

Satyender has died at the Clara Maass Medical Centre where he worked for 35 plus years. He was eminently known as one of the best laparoscopic surgeons in the state. His daughter Priya also died in Clara hospital, who also worked there. She did her fellowship in nephrology in South Jersey with the Cooper Health System. Her mother Komlish Khanna is a pediatrician. Priya has two siblings, Sugandha a physician, and Anisha a pediatrician.
