Family Star: Arrving In Just 20 Days Of Gap?

Back in the day, the whole of Tollywood got worried that if big films were quickly turning up on the OTT platforms, eventually the theatrical business would get killed. Because, even if a film gets average talk, surely it would make big bucks if the audience feel that it will not come on OTT anytime soon. And that is what Tollywood believed.

Cut to the present, many big films are not even close to following any such conviction. The Telugu Film Industry biggies have earlier advocated for an 8-week (or nearly 60 days) window for a film’s release on OTT, but it looks like none are following that. Quite surprisingly, a big-ticket movie like “Family Star” is turning up on OTT just 21 days after its release. This is quite shocking because this quick arrival might help the OTT platform, but then, the audience will be switching to a mode that they need not watch films that get average talk in theatres, as they will arrive soon on digital streaming sites anyway.

That said, as producers are recovering a larger part of their investment from the OTT giants that are competing with each other big time to grab digital streaming rights, it might be a relief for the producers financially. We have to see what kind of changes these moves will bring to the theatrical aspect of the film revenues in the coming days.
