India’s Neeraj Chopra Wins A Historic Gold Medal In Men’s Javelin Throw

Neeraj Chopra is the name that needs no introduction to those who are regularly following the Olympics. At the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, the Indian spearman surprised everyone with his impressive throw during the qualifications. In the final that took place on Saturday, Neeraj Chopra clinched a gold medal and scripted history. Neeraj Chopra has become the second Indian to grab gold at the Olympics in an individual sport. In the final event, Neeraj Chopra’s throw reached 87.58 meters.

Neeraj Chopra, the 23-year-old ‘Spear Man’ from Haryana’s Khandra topped the qualifying round with an 86.65m throw, 1.01m ahead of the second place and world leader Johannes Vetter. Neeraj has become the first Indian javelin thrower to finish on top of the qualification round in the history of the Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra shot to fame in the sports arena when he bagged India’s first-ever gold medal at the World Championship. Later, Neeraj displayed an amazing performance at the Commonwealth Games that took place in Australia in 2018. He became the first Indian to bag a gold from his discipline at the quadrennial event. Even at the Asian Games, he bagged a gold from his discipline.

For his Gold Medals in Asian Games 2018, CWG 2018 and Asian Athletic Championship 2017, Neeraj was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2018.
