Meet The Indian Hero Who Saved 180 Lives On Plane

A major aviation tragedy was averted and all 180 passengers onboard Flydubai flight heaved a sigh of relief, thanks to the exemplary display of courage by Indian pilot named Captain Smit Machchhar, who fought with his co-pilot in the cockpit and managed to safely land the plane.

On Wednesday, the Flydubai flight plunged 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds after a violent struggle broke out inside the cockpit between the two pilots. Reports revealed that an Omani co-pilot allegedly stabbed Indian Captain Smit Machchhar with a knife in a dangerous attempt to hijack and crash the aircraft. The flight was heading to Tel Aviv from Dubai.

Despite suffering severe injuries during the scuffle, Smit fought back courageously and managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and cabin crew to rush in and neutralise him. This brave act has saved the plane from crashing what otherwise could have been another distressing tragedy.

Captain Smit Machchhar is an experienced aviator from Gujarat who recorded over 9,500 flying hours during his 11-year career with SpiceJet before joining Flydubai in 2022.

Following the heroic incident, general public and world leaders started hailing the extraordinary display of bravery by the Indian pilot. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump praised his quick thinking during the emergency.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also showered praises on Smit for his valour and unwavering resolve to protect lives.

Currently recovering in a hospital after receiving necessary medical treatment, his timely act has made him a true hero as media houses published his identity and nationality.
