A Disappointing Friday At Box Office

August was a very good month for Tollywood at the box office. Films like Irumudi, Viswanath & Sons, and a few others performed well. Everyone expected the same momentum to continue, but the industry is facing back-to-back failures yet again. Last Friday, especially, was disappointing.

There were high expectations for ‘The Paradise,’ but it didn’t work as a full-length film. The film got good numbers despite the criticism. However, the film failed to achieve a expected blockbuster status. Audiences expected other new releases like Sigma, Dont Trouble The Trouble, Tella Kagitham, and Anakapalle to work well. But these films also ended in disappointment.

The first week of October showed some promise, with some films promoted well. In particular, Fahadh’s DTTT showed promise, with heavy promotion, tweets from Mahesh Babu, and NTR’s presence at the pre-release event. Sandeep Kishan and Vijay’s son Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma, was also talked about before the release. Both films could not meet audience expectations.

And then, films like Thella Kagitham and Anakapalle, which carried some good buzz before the release, failed to register positive talk and good revenues after the release. The dubbed version of the Tamil hit Dorothy also could not perform to expectations. The wait will continue for another success in the coming days. The focus now shifts to Adarsha Kutumbam since it is a big film catering to all sections of audiences. However, it is likely to get postponed.
