Paagal Day 1 : Solid Openings With Mixed Talk

Actors and filmmakers often cross the limits and make over-the-top statements during their films release. While their statements work in the film’s favour sometimes, they also backfire most of the time. Vishwak Sen’s Paagal is a perfect example of such films.

Since the beginning, Vishwak has been an agressive person on and off the stage. He made several startling statements during the release of Falaknuma Das and HIT and made headlines in the past.

Needless to say, Vishwak’s brashy statements like “I’ll change my name if I fail to reopen the closed theaters work Paagal” at the film’s pre-release event became a hot topic on social media and he was subjected to intense trolling. Despite the criticism, Vishwak didn’t take back his statements and exuded confidence in Paagal’s success.

But movie buffs who watched Paagal’s first day first show in cinemas on Saturday morning realised that Vishwak’s statements and blind confidence were just a promotional gimmick. Barring the comedy in the first half and Vishwak’s performance, there’s hardly anything to rave about in Paagal. The film derails totally when it enters serious mood.

This left Vishwak facing the heat once again. Netizens have been trolling him since the completion of the first show. But, even though he is being trolled, Vishwak succeeded in his mission with his statements at Paagal’s pre-release event.

Released amidst solid advance bookings, Paagal registered blockbuster collections in both the Telugu states even with the lackluster word of mouth. Most theaters registered housefull collections and many people couldn’t get tickets for the morning shows.

However, due to the heavy mixed talk, Paagal’s fate at the box office looks bleak after the first weekend. However, the film is expected to bail out its producers and distributors by minting decent shares by the weekend itself.
