Why Telugu Superstars Are Worrying This Way?

Talented hero Nani’s heartfelt letter the other day has created a discussion of sorts in the public domain as to why more and more Telugu heroes are worried about opting for an OTT release. The actor has clarified that he’s unhappy but will stand by the decision of his Tuck Jagadish producers whether to release the film in theatres or only on Amazon Prime Video.

Back then, even senior hero Venkatesh expressed his displeasure of releasing Narappa straight on the OTT platform but confirmed that he has to save his producers and stand by their decisions. Same is the case with the likes of Nagarjuna who opted for OTT release, and other heroes who are in the process.

One wonders if our heroes are worried about disappointing their fans as the films are not releasing in theatres, but considering the fact that the corona pandemic has taken a huge toll, an OTT release would make the same fans watch the film again and again for sure at a lesser price. So what’s there in an OTT release to panic?

With some reports estimating that the Indian OTT consumption has touched a mighty 1 Billion Subscribers mark with all the leading platforms combined, surely an online release would attract more audiences to these films. But then, the measuring of stardom won’t happen as metrics like Box Office figures and running days are not countable now. Is this worrying our stars? Because in Bollywood we are not witnessing such statements from the likes of Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar who have opted for back to back OTT releases.

In case if our star heroes are feeling bad for disappointing their fans by not getting a theatrical release of their latest movies, maybe it’s high time they stop worrying like that. Instead, they should come up with more versatile content that the present-day audiences are watching, though nothing could replace the joy of a theatrical experience. Both theatres and OTT co-exist from now on, and any release should be fine for the entertainers.
