The much-awaited season 5 of Bigg Boss Telugu premiered last night on Star Maa. After seasons three and four, King Nagarjuna returned to the show as a host for the fifth season as well. This time, 19 contestants were sent into the house in the launch episode.
However, the makers have repeated the same mistake done in season 4. Already, the makers and Star Maa faced huge criticism last year for not getting known faces into the house. Most of last year’s contestants are unknown celebrities. The same is the case this year as well. Barring a very few contestants, most of them don’t have any popularity among audiences.
Indian Idol winner Srirama Chandra, Anchor Ravi, Anchor Lobo, and Shanmukh Jaswanth are the only people who have considerable fame outside. Celebrities like Anee Master, Uma, Priya, Sarayu, and RJ Kajal are active in their professions but they don’t enjoy any huge following among the public.
There are a few fresh faces like Maanas, Hamida, Priyanka Singh, Jessie, and Lahari, who are unknown to 90% of the audiences.
With less popular faces and more new faces, it is a tough task for the makers to grab the viewers’ attention. Moreover, Bigg Boss will face tough competition from Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu and Master Chef this time. An on top of that, there is IPL coming up in a couple of weeks and the T20 World Cup in October. Getting good TRP ratings amidst all these shows and events will be a challenge for Bigg Boss.
The content should be either extraordinary or the contestants should be hyper-active to make the show successful this year. It has to be seen how well does Bigg Boss handles these challenges in the coming days.
