People Not Coming To Theatres – Stop This Talk!

“People are not coming to theatres” – This is the talk being heard unanimously from many quarters in Film Nagar. Sometimes filmmakers are saying this and sometimes media folks are asking this question. Before anyone rakes up this talk yet again about the audience, maybe, here is a point we should first try to understand.

If the filmmakers themselves keep telling that audiences is not coming to theatres, that might really impact the ones who are already going to theatres to watch the film. They might think that when other audiences are not going to theatres, why should they go? And media should understand the fact that when audiences turned up in theatres for RRR, KGF2, DJ Tillu and Vikram, why wouldn’t they turn up in theatres for other movies? It’s the content that matters and only that could pull the audience to theatres but not hefty promotions or controversies.

Realizing the fact that they should make proper, engaging and entertaining content, maybe it’s high time that Telugu actors, directors and producers stop saying the thing– ‘audience is not coming to theatres’. Stop killing the interest of some real audience who want to watch even flop films in theatres.

At the same time, media should also stop pulling the leg of producers saying that audiences are not turning to theatres as these days housefuls are not needed to make a film successful with ticket prices soaring up, and non-theatrical rights fetching huge money for producers. Even 40-60% occupancy will help producers and distributors recover their investment but for that to happen, again, content needs to be good. That’s it.
