SC Notices To Satakarni & Rudhramadevi Makers

According to news reports, the Supreme court of India has issued notices to Balakrishna’s Gautamiputra Satakarni and Gunashekhar’s Rudhramadevi filmmakers.

The Cine Prekshaka Viniyogadarula Sangham (Movie Viewers Association), which is a body of filmgoers, has moved the court alleging that the production houses of Gautami Putra Satakarni and Rudhramadevi have allegedly not passed on the benefit to the end consumers of cinema whereas both the production houses have reportedly received benefit from the tax exemption from the Governments of AP and Telangana and did not reduce the ticket prices.

The Court which took up the case of the Movie Viewers Association have issued notices to the production houses and made the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as the respondent parties.

While Satakarni had received exemption from both the Telugu states, Rudhramadevi had been waived off the Entertainment Tax only by the Telangana state government.

Both the films were historical films that have significance with rich culture, heritage of Telugus. And interestingly both the films were commercial success at the Box Office. It has to be seen how the respondents would justify the tax waive off and at the same time, how the state governments would justify the act.

Meanwhile, the production houses First Frame Entertainments and Gunaa Team Works have not yet confirmed the reports of receiving the court notices. The producers are not available to make a comment on the development. Nandamuri Balakrishna is currently shooting for his upcoming film (NBK 107) in Turkey. More details are awaited.
