Twist In Tale: Nayan, Vignesh’s Marriage Registered 6 Yrs Ago

A huge controversy erupted when star heroine Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan announced the arrival of their twin baby boys, Uyir and Ulagam, on October 9th. Nayan and Vignesh tied the knot on June 9th this year, and they entered parenthood within 4 months.

With speculations of Nayan and Vignesh violating the Surrogacy Regulation Act 2021, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian had ordered a probe to find out if the couple had broken surrogacy laws. Now, in a major twist, both Nayan and Vignesh have submitted an affidavit to the Tamil Nadu Health Department, in which they stated that their marriage was registered 6 years ago and that the surrogate mother is Nayan’s relative who looks after the actress’ business in Dubai.

Nayan and Vignesh also informed the health department that they have not violated any laws and that the surrogacy agreement was signed in December 2021. The star couple also produced their marriage registration certificate along with the affidavit.

As per the Surrogacy Regulation Act 2021, the couple is eligible for surrogacy only if they have been married for 5 years. The wife must be aged between 25 and 50 years and the husband between 26 and 55 years. Also, the couple must not have any living child, biological or adopted.

The law further says that a surrogate mother has to be a close relative of the couple, a married woman with a child of her own and is aged between 25 and 35 years, who has been a surrogate mother only once in her life. Meanwhile, the Chennai hospital where Nayan and Vignesh’s twins were born has been identified. But in all likelihood, the couple may get a cleanchit from the health department.
